I would probably suggest going back to the original blackground ( minima ) and using a blog background from shabby blogs or a site like that. That way you can use a header and custimize it with a picture or text. I tried to redesign mine with the new "layout designer" on here like you have now and I hated it.
How are you wanting to customize your blog?
